How do you toilet train a cat on a turkish toilet?
Category: QA
I adopted a kitty not long ago. I have a very small apartment with a Turkish toilet (pretty much a porcelain hole in the floor with foot places to stand on). I change the litter box every few days but it gets rather smelly (I don’t have cat litter available so I use dirt from outside). I think it would be best if I could toilet train my little one. Does anyone know how to do this? I read the instructions for an American toilet and it seemed basic enough, but the turk only has water in a small hole.
Here is a photo on wikipedia:

Any ideas?

This person trained his/her cat to use the toilet: pottytrainmycat.com
They posted a lot of videos on youtube, you can find them here: http://www.youtube.com/user/heliman29
I know that the instructions are for a different kind of toilet, but I’m pretty sure that you simply follow the same steps and you’ll get the same results.
Good luck.
Dp it very carefully

I have a Turkish cat that toilet trained herself before she came to live with me in the US. She kept this habit, so she still often goes in my bathtub.
You want to get your cat used to stepping down into your toilet whenever it needs to use a litterbox.
I firstwould suggest placing her litterbox near your toilet for a few weeks. After a while, place the litterbox over the toilet (remove it when you go, of course.) Do that for another two weeks or so and then you should use a plastic bag to line the toilet and place the dirt in that. Finally, when you stop even doing that, your cat should already be used to stepping down into your toilet and using it as a litterbox.
